<aside> I’m Emma Ha, and this page is about my writing.
I first started writing fiction while studying at Cambridge University. It was during the pandemic, and Cambridge was eerily quiet. Besides attending Zoom classes, snacking, and dealing with general unhealthiness and low spirits, not much else was happening. It was around that time that I started writing sporadically. Most of my work consisted of short stories meant to entertain my friends, and writing became a way to pass the time.
In 2022, I began writing a Hermione/Snape fanfic and posted on AO3, which unexpectedly received a lot of positive feedback. Some readers even emailed me, saying my story brightened their darkest days. I didn’t take my writing too seriously because I always felt that writing was just for fun—something cavemen might agree with. It wasn’t until the summer of 2024, when I moved to New York, that new ideas began to take shape, and I decided to take on more serious writing projects, with longer and more complex stories. Well, who knows how it will turn out?

And just like that, amidst confusion, panic, and grief, Ashley Lin was forced, for the first time, to confront the harsh realities of her own family.
